MEDFORD, Ore. -- A proposed apartment complex in east Medford is making people who live around it very upset.
The plan passed this afternoon much to the dislike of neighbors.
Today the city council heard from the housing authority and some angry neighbors about an apartment complex in this area in east Medford.
The cherry creek complex, which is expected to be built on the corner of Spring Street And Berkely Way, will be a multifamily residence, among a neighborhood of single-family homes.
At a meeting Friday at the Medford city hall, a meeting was held to let the public speak out about their concerns with the project. There were dozens of problems the neighbors listed off, one of the most prominent being traffic on Spring Street and the danger for children.
There was also the scare of violent crime being associated with high occupancy complexes. 487 signatures were against the project.
Authorities who are working on building the project proposed several reasons as to why the project will be beneficial. There would be an onsite manager, and an annual contribution made to each unit, and although it is low-income housing, the proximity to services would help the families that are living there.
The housing authority and city council were not able to speak with us on this issue.
