MEDFORD, Ore. -- The change in the weather is just in time for the beginning of the NewsWatch 12 Coats For Kids campaign.
Those red barrels rolled out across Southern Oregon early Monday morning.
Newswatch 12 crews traveled from Ashland, to Grants Pass, to Klamath Falls today, setting up more than 60 barrels. They're in grocery stores, firehouses, non-profits, and businesses across the area to make it easier for people to find a place to donate nearby. Now that the barrels are out, their temporary homes are excited to play host.
Those barrels are now visible and open for your donations, but they're just the first step on the way their final destination: a child in need.
The coats you drop in those bins will go to help thousands of kids all throughout Southern Oregon. Last year we were able to donate more than 3,500 coats to students in need. Schools like Washington Elementary School say they can't wait to receive the donated coats; the school gives out almost 200 coats to kids each year.
The coats you donate will be professionally cleaned before they head to our news studios to be sorted and then handed out to the schools in the most need.
