MEDFORD, Ore. -- Jeffery Wheeler faces additional charges.
A grand jury agreed with the Districts Attorney's Office when they presented their amended indictment today. Wheeler is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Jessica Bethany. The three new charges, one of reckless endangering a person and two counts of criminal mistreatment, are connected to his infant daughter, who the D.A.'s office says was in danger.
"There will be evidence that he left the apartment with the child in the apartment while the gas was on. So, that is a situation, which would be likely to injure her health or welfare," said Deputy District Attorney David Orr.
Wheeler was not in court today. Typically, defendants don't take part in these types of hearings. The D.A.'s office says amended indictments are common, happening several times a month.
