MEDFORD, Ore. -- Two men are behind bars for possessing child pornography, with one offender living just feet away from an elementary school.
The arrests are raising concerns for the school about how to keep kids safe. These arrests are part of a year long, undercover Internet investigation by the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force. Two arrests have been made in the past 10 days, including one close to a school.
51-year-old Michael White was arrested October 17th at his home on Withington Street, just a few houses down from Washington Elementary School. The task force, who says White had pictures and videos showing the sexual abuse of young children, seized White's computer and digital data.
Washington Elementary does not use school busses, so students either walk to school or are driven by a parent. Due to that, the school puts a large emphasis on teaching kids how to stay safe when walking thought he surrounding neighborhood.
A second man, 41-year-old David Hurd, was also arrested on October 17th at his home near Phoenix. Both men are charged with encouraging child sexual abuse, and are now in Jackson County Jail.
