GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- It's the first day where drivers can use studded tires.
The owner of the Tire Factory, John Roen, says there are some options available so you can prepare for it. Many tire stores carry studded tires that can easily be swapped on or seasonal tires that can be used all year even during winter.
He says it's better to prepare yourself because what you can't see is the most dangerous.
"When you hit black ice, you have no idea. So, until you're in the skid or in the ditch, you don't know you're on ice. So the snow tires and studded tires are working when you don't know they're working," says Roen.
The manager suggests going in early to get tires before the mad rush hits and prices go up.
