CENTRAL POINT, Ore., -- A fire on Pinehurst Street, which neighbors noticed when smoke started pouring from the central point house, started just before noon Sunday. Firefighters from departments in Central Point, White City, and Eagle Point  responded. The home is older, and has been remodeled many times, which is part of the reason it took an hour to put out the flames.

"We had quite a battle putting this thing out, but it's worth the effort," said District 3's Rod Edward.

While firefighters saved some furniture and family collectibles, the home itself is a total loss. The couple's dog was also killed in the fire. The cause is officially still under investigation, but it may have started near the wood stove in the living room.
